When you feel unheard by your husband after a long day, shutting down feels like the only way to protect your peace. You can break this cycle by naming your body fatigue first, taking three slow deep breaths before responding, and sharing one simple need instead of holding everything inside until you explode.

Why Withdrawing Feels Safer Than Speaking

You walk through the door after working all day, hands stiff and shoulders tense, and you just want a moment to catch your breath. Instead, the sink is full, your 9-year-old daughter is refusing to pick up her shoes, and your husband is sitting on the couch immersed in video games. You try to speak up, but the words get stuck in your throat, so you quiet down completely and walk away. That quietness isn't peace, it is survival mode. I spent years holding in my frustration while my body slowly gave out on me, joint by joint, because I thought staying silent kept the peace at home. I would love to walk this journey with you as you walk towards healing. Check out my free community for continued support.

The Physical Toll of Holding It All In

When you suppress your hurt night after night, your body carries that weight. You start waking up between 4 and 5 a.m. feeling like you never rested at all, dragging yourself through devotions and trying to keep the household running. Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that the joy of the Lord is our strength, but joy cannot flow when you are operating on pure depletion. Suppressed emotions do not disappear, they show up as deep joint aches, irritability, and that heavy mental fog that makes simple dinner decisions feel impossible.

Three Gentle Steps to Reconnect Tonight

First, acknowledge your physical capacity before you enter the room. Take two minutes in your car or at the kitchen counter to take a deep breath and relax your shoulders. Second, stop expecting yourself to fix the atmosphere of the whole home in one evening. Third, practice soft honesty by using simple language like I am feeling exhausted and I need fifteen quiet minutes. Moving from burnout to reconnection starts with these tiny repeated choices rather than waiting for perfect conditions.

Questions & Answers

Q: How do I talk to my husband without starting an argument?
A: Start by sharing what you need in the moment rather than listing everything that went wrong today. Speak gently when your body feels regulated, and focus on one small point at a time.

Q: What if my husband retreats into games (or something else) when I try to talk?
A: Choose a moment outside of the busy evening rush to invite him into conversation. Let him know you miss connecting with him and set aside a brief, quiet window without screens.

Q: How can I restore my energy when I feel emotionally drained?
A: Begin your day anchored in scripture and worship music before the household wakes up. Protect your rest as a non-negotiable boundary so you have capacity to offer grace at home.

Meet Tabitha King

For years, I felt helpless inside my own body.

Hi, I am a wife and mother, a minister, a massage therapist, and a holistic health coach.
I am passionate about working with the body and learning more about how our bodies work, but more importantly, how to be made whole in our bodies, minds, and spirits.

Through the years, I had become a workaholic and never felt any peace. I was overwhelmed and stressed with dis-ease and pain.  I had to stop working for a while because of the chronic pain while having a husband and three children at home who needed me.

I struggled with my health for quite some time, and I went through worse times before they got better.

How many times have you been to a doctor, and they acted as if they couldn't figure out what's going on with you, so you go seeking doctor after doctor, looking for someone to help you because you know you are dealing with pain and need help figuring out the problem? How many times have you tried to create new habits, start new diets, introduce new patterns in your life, and end up feeling like you failed at all those things?

And then, it happened. I have found something amazing that is helping me to understand I AM a healthy being, and I CAN recommit to a healthy, wealthy life!

I was introduced to a different way of living that many people are talking a lot about lately. I realized for my chronic situations; I needed to start getting my health under control. I’d considered it before, but I kept cycling back into a downward spiral going through a valley filled with pain.

Prolonged physical illness not only affects us physically, but it affects everyone physically, mentally, and spiritually. Many tend to suffer a lot at the hands of doctors who make them worse, not better. I have dealt with this and it has put a bitter taste in my mouth towards doctors. The different medications did not lead to helping me get better, but they caused more pain, and side effects from the medicines caused deeper stress to my body. Anger, hurt, and pain kept showing up in my life, and I didn't know how to deal with it. These things controlled my mind, but now I am being made free. I love God, but, for quite some time, while I knew the Word says, "There is now no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus," I was still suffering from condemnation, guilt, blame, and shame.  Now, I have learned to persevere with joy during my pain because in the end, by faith, God will get the victory through my life's journey, and I can walk in my victory daily!

I’m on a mission to help people break free and empower themselves with the knowledge and resources I’ve worked so hard to get for myself.
