How I Found Out I Had Rheumatoid Arthritis

Have you ever felt like you were going through the same things over and over with your health and no one could help you figure out any answers? Well, that's what I was going through as I kept having chronic headaches and sinus issues. I was seeing a doctor way too often for many years because every three months, I would have a sinus infection.

After a while, I knew it was time to go in for my regular prescription for antibiotics because the nasal spray and antihistamines were no longer serving me well. I was getting so sick of going back and forth between Zyrtec, Claritin, and Allegra asking with others like benadryl and Sudafed. I took all of these at some point and then needed to get the ‘D’ behind them because I needed the decongestant. These drugs were annoying to me because regardless of I took them, I still ended up with a sinus infection every three months.

This went on from my early twenties until now (I'm about to be 40 😁). It wasn't until I met an ear, nose, and throat PA, whom I did not want to go to because I was sick of getting the run around and she was getting under my skin with her bad bedside manner. But, the funny thing happened, while I was running from her and trying to go where the doctor I wanted to see was, even if she wasn't near me, God put into plan that I had to see her.

She ran several tests and she believed I might have sarcoidosis. I was starting to get afraid because my nose had been through a lot (two balloon nasal surgeries to open my airway, hundreds of infections), and now we're looking at new diseases that I never thought I had. The results were negative, thankfully!

She kept running tests until she found my RA factor was elevated and she thought I may need to see a Rheumatologist. I told her I had seen one before because of my pain and inflammation in my body, but the numbers weren't elevated at that time. So, I went back to see a Rheumatologist. I went to the one they suggested. I went to one visit and realized she could not help me.

I started looking for my own doctor and lo and behold, I found one that I liked, but when I first started going, she could not understand why my Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor referred me. She had never heard of nasal inflammation causing Rheumatoid Arthritis but she went through and did the testing anyway. She was another doctor that I didn't care too much for her bedside manner and how she talked to me. But, anyways, I digress 😅.

When she saw how high my numbers were elevated, she was stunned and began a workup while putting me on a medication they use for cancer patients called Methotrexate. I was on this for a year and had no issues with my sinuses after until I did again. That's when I realized that while I'm on medication, it seems to work for me for a season and then I have to do something new. Hence my recent desire to research and learn more about healing and becoming whole from inside out.
